The ski resort of Val d’Isère is one of the most popular resorts in the French Alps and has managed to retain its beautiful traditional village feel. Elegant and cosmopolitan, with its origins in medieval hunting estates, The ski resort of Val d’Isère has an array of shops, bars, clubs and restaurants to suit all tastes. The apres ski in Val d’Isère is outstanding and renowned all over the Alps, attracting many celebrities from all over the world.

The skiing and boarding

The combined lift systems of the ski resorts of Val d’Isère and Tignes (the famous Espace Killy - 300km of marked runs) offer some of the very best skiing and boarding in the world. The excellent lift system also provides access to some of the most exciting off-piste in the Alps, such as Le Tour du Charvet, Le Grand Vallon and the Col du Pers. Val d'Isere overview

Living up to its reputation, the ski resort of Val d’Isère is a fantastic and beautiful resort. Val D’Isère can appear more British than French, but this is only a slight grievance and shouldn’t take away from this wonderful resort. Coming up the road to the ski resort of Val D’Isère from Bourg St. Maurice, you will first arrive in La Daille, this small ski resort is convenient for access to the slopes. Val D’Isere itself is big and busy but it’s very attractive and the addition of wood and stone-cladding and the sparkly fairy lights make for a welcoming atmosphere. There are some good bus services to get you to the main lift stations so the location of your accommodation in this respect is not too important. If, however, you are keen to sample the wonderful nightlife in Val D’Isère the bus service runs  in the evening. Ste-Foy is a just a short car or bus journey away, and is well worth a day trip (if you have bought a 6 day pass for Val D’Isère you will have 50% off a Ste-Foy pass). There are only 4 ski lifts in the resort but these lifts give you access to some of the best off-piste terrain around.

The three sectors of Val D’Isère’s slopes are Bellevarde (home to the legendary Face run), Solaise, a sunny area perfect for intermediates, and Le Fornet, which has beautiful views and great freeriding potential. The skiing in the Espace Killy (combining Val D’Isère and Tignes) is one of the biggest and best ski areas in the Alps. There are 300km of marked runs: 20 green, 60 blue, 35 red and 16 black, and the terrain caters for all levels of skier.

Events in Val D’Isère include the Alpine Skiing World Cup event, the XBOX Big Day Out, La Scara, the Val D’Isère classical music festival, the Adventure and Discovery Film Festival and is Musicaval Music Festival. Val D’Isère has also been chosen to host the 2009 World Alpine Skiing Championships. Activities in Val D’Isère include driving on ice, driving a team of huskies, ice skating, rock climbing, scenic helicopter flights, sports, and swimming. You could also visit a health spa, take a yoga class or simply go shopping on Val D’Isère’s great high street.
