The resort

Pretty resort, ideal for families, beginners and intermediates with plenty of slope-side accommodation

The ski resort of Valmorel in Savoie is surrounded by mountain peaks over 2000m and has fantastic views of Mont Blanc.  Skiing is from 1400m to 2550m, with plenty of forested runs. The Grand Domaine is made up of Valmorel, Doucy Combelouviere and Saint Francois Longchamp and gives access to over 150km of pistes.

The skiing and boarding

Set at 1400m, with a top altitude of 2550m, Valmorel has gained the reputation as being an excellent family resort. It also offers great skiing for beginners and intermediates who want to immerse themselves in stunning Alpine scenery with a resort designed to offer the ultimate in convenience to all skiers. Advanced skiers have some good mogul fields and excellent off piste to test their skills.   more>>

The apres ski

The apres ski is usually found in the cafes on the pistes whereas the activity moves later on to venues on the main street. For non-skiiers there isn't a great deal to do, but there is a fitness centre, cinema and ice climbing, along with the shops and other general resort amenities. more>>

Resort overview

The ski resort of Valmorel has been sensitively designed. The buildings in the resort are never more than three or four storeys high and all follow the curves of the land. The architects and builders used only local wood and stone and there are no visible electrical wires or cables. Valmorel is divided in to various hamlets, literally, clusters of buildings on different levels. These are connected by footpaths, sometimes covered, and adorned with charming little squares and internal courtyards. Almost all of the shops and services in the ski resort of Valmorel centre on the 'Bourg'. It is pedestrianised and easy to get around.

Set at 1400m, with a top altitude of 2550m, Valmorel has gained the reputation as being an excellent family resort for a number of reasons. First, the centre of the village is car-free. Second, most of the pistes cater to beginners and intermediates. Third, there are areas specially designed for people of all ages to learn. There is adequate skiing for advanced skiers too with mogul fields and some good off piste. This does mean that advanced skiers aren't presented with very much to test their skills, apart from mogul fields and some good off-piste. Because the resort is right by the ski area, though, you can ski to your door.
