The resort

Imagine gliding down a mountain in waist-deep, fluffy, dry powder - that's Snowbird skiing

The ski resort of Snowbird opened in December of 1971 with three lifts; the Tram, the Lodge at Snowbird and the Snowbird Centre. Since then Snowbird has become the No1 ski resort in the USA with over 2,500 acres of powdery trails and playing its part in the Winter Olympics of 2002. The resort is in an isolated mountain setting that is a cozy, pedestrian village within rugged surroundings.
Just 45 minutes from Salt Lake City Airport you will discover ‘The Greatest Snow on Earth’.

The skiing and boarding

Snowbird prides itself on acres of terrain for everyone - from wide bowls to gladed tree runs, from steep chutes to gentle cruising boulevards. Intermediates will want to checkout Chip's Run, the longest designated run at 2.5 miles.
All this snow and terrain is easily accessible via eight chairlifts and one powerful aerial tram, which carries 125 passengers to the summit of 11,000-foot Hidden Peak in eight short minutes. And the new 500-acre bowl, Mineral Basin, is serviced by a new high-speed detachable quad to access the terrain. With a vertical drop of 3,000 feet and more than 500 inches of annual snowfall covering the famous range it's almost impossible to run out of new trails to try at Snowbird, even with a ski season running from mid-November to mid-May.

The apres ski

There are a few bars you may want to visit, after a days skiing in Snowbird. Apres ski here is done the Salt Lake way, relaxed and informal. Kick back on a comfy couch at the Aerie Lounge and feel the warmth of a roaring fire as live jazz tickles the ear drums.

The club of choice for the canyon locals is The Wildflower Lounge, located in the Iron Blosam, open nightly from 4 pm. It has a menu featuring crispy crust pizza, wild things and wings, Italian cheese fries and deep-fried veggies to name a few. Stop by after a long day of skiing for après-ski, featuring a pool table, several televisions and more often than not, live music. There is a sushi bar, serving fresh sushi every day, said to be the best in the state. You can play billiards and watch sports at the Tram Club. They also provide nightly entertainment and have a dance floor. El Chanate Cantina is a bar that is home to Utah's largest selection of premium tequilas.

Après ski in the ski resort of Snowbird is relatively quiet although there are still over 15 different restaurants to choose from offering everything from U.S. favourites to Italian and Chinese. You could of course go snowmobiling or even for a dinner sleigh ride. Salt Lake City is but 30 minutes away and has excellent city entertainments and shopping.
