The ski resort of Serre Chevalier is one of the major French ski resorts. Serre Chevalier takes its name from the peak that dominates the valley. Located in the southern French Alps, close to the Parc National des Ecrins, it offers over 250km of skiing and a fantastic lift system covering 4 different areas. The ski resort of Serre Chevalier is an interesting and fascinating collection of over twelve villages including Chantemerle, Villeneuve, Monetier-les-Bains and the ancient and highest town in France, Briancon, an old town with ancient remparts and narrow twisting streets.

The ski resort of Serre Chevalier offers over 250kms of piste, and a fantastic lift system covering 4 areas. Serre Chevalier is one of the best ski regions in France and the snow record is excellent. The ski resort of Serre Chevalier offers something for everyone with a good mix of tree lined runs and open bowls. The enclosed runs are great for snowy days, and given the spread out nature of the resort, there is a real feeling of getting somewhere. Beginners will find nursery slopes at each village, Le Monetier being the most popular given its quietier position on the edge of the ski area, and having good easy slopes nearby. Intermediates will flourish given the extent of blues and easy reds all over the area. The ski resort of Serre Chevalier offers a variety of apres ski activities appealing to all ages. You can go snow shoeing, snow mobiling and even ice climbing. There is even night skidooing and torchlight descents. The resort has over forty bars and restaurants and a great choice of shops. There is no shortage of great places to eat in Serre Chevalier. Pizza is still popular, along with traditional French cuisine. La Cabassa in Chantmerle do great pizzas and pasta dishes whilst the Loup Blanc has great traditional local food. L'Arbe a Pain is a great place for lunchtimes. The ski resort of Villeneuve has La Marotte for French cuisine and La Pastorale for specialities cooked on an open fire. La Bidulle is an excellent fish restaurant.
Nightlife in Serre Chevalier offers a varied après ski scene. From Le pub to the locals' favourite bar, 'The Alpen', run by two very friendly French locals. If you are into cocktails check out 'Gotcha', the bar of Le Signal Du Prorel, it has great music and a tequila night every Monday.
Briancon has a few good bars, The Drum is popular with locals and La Cave is a quaint bar frequented by families. The Rosbif Bar, at the bottom of the main lift, is a lively après ski bar attracting tourists and locals alike. Bar Central is small and cosy and The Tuscon is a lively bar which offers transport home at the end of the evening.
The ski resort of Chantemerle 1350 has a few bars worth trying. The Extreme Bar has live music and Dance DJ nights whilst the Irish Pub is lively pub with traditional live music.
The ski resort of Villeneuve 1400 has a nightclub called Baita and a few après ski bars. The best bar in Villeneuve is apparently the LB Bar. They serve great cocktails. La Grotte has a rooftop terrace & small restaurant/lounge area. This is no smoking & child-friendly with books and games. Serve Café-style food during the day including all day breakfast and burgers. There is live music most nights.

All of the ski villages have their own attractions. Briancon is historic and charming, the ski resort of Villeneuve is lively and has a purpose built point for skiers. It also has the best skiing access of any of the ski villages. There are good nursery areas here too. Chantmerle is historic and interesting and Monetier is quiet and unspoiled. Every village is easily accessible by ski bus so evening activities are easily varied. From one end of the valley to the other it takes 20 minutes.
Surrounded by national park, the ski resort of Serre Chevalier has spectacular mountain scenery and beautiful runs through France's biggest larch forest, giving good protection and visibility in bad weather. Above the tree line there are huge, white bowls with mouth-watering opportunities for every skiing abilities. Blues and reds cover the whole area and beginners have excellent village skiing. Advanced skiers have loads of challenging reds, long blacks runs and some challenging mogul fields. Off piste is virtually unlimited and goes through hidden valleys and glades.
In Briancon, there is an Olympic Ice Rink and a brand new swimming pool with sauna and Jacuzzi. There are six outdoor tennis courts just a ten minute walk from the town centre with three indoor courts. There are two cinemas, bowling and a nightclub too.
