Resort overview |
 |
The resort of Klosters is split into 2 parts, Klosters Dorf and Klosters Platz. Klosters Platz is a little livelier and is the centre for most of the hotels, bars, restaurants and shops as well as the cable car link towards Davos. Klosters Dorf has the gondola lift to Klosters' own ski area on Madrisa and remains the quieter of the two. Both have plenty of Alpine charm.
English tourists began arriving here 1860s and wooden skis appeared from Norway in the 1880s. Local carpenters soon copied them. Some of the world's first ski lifts went into operation here in the early 1930s. Even Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, visited the area in 1894, and predicted the growth of skiing. A small and traditional village, skiing in Klosters offers a low-key atmosphere and a fantastic choice of skiing to suit all levels of skier.
