Thrills & Spills in the Wild West

The ski resort of Jackson Hole is a ski mecca that every skier must visit at least once in their lifetime. A unique combination of a spectacular mountain with the longest vertical descent in the USA and a town that is a throwback to the frontier days of the Wild West - this is Jackson Hole.

The skiing and boarding

Skiing in Jackson Hole offers something for all levels of skier. With its vertical drop and enviable snow record of 11.6 metres of snow annually, the ski resort of Jackson Hole is the perfect choice for advanced  and confident intermediates. Beginners too will enjoy the impressive scenery from Après Vous Mountain. From the steep and deep to chutes, couloirs, bowls and glades, Jackson Hole is like nothing you have ever experienced before. A hidden gem that is well worth visiting is the small resort of Grand Targhee, about an hour away, which lays claim to be one of the powder capitals of America. In town, you can put your skis on at Snow King Mountain with its day and night-time skiing. Snowboarders are also well catered for with a superpipe on the mountain.

Situated in the heart of the Teton Mountains, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has two distinct mountains and has been welcoming skiers and snowboarders for over 40 years. Known for its variety of runs, light powder and endless backcountry skiing as well as varied nightlife. Today three major ski areas have made the ski resort of Jackson Hole world famous for excellent skiing and winter sports.

Grand Targhee Ski Resort, near the Idaho border, and easily accessible to Jackson Hole, is famous for its deep and plentiful powder snow. Over 500 inches fall every year. Doorstep skiing and a skiable terrain of nearly 2000 acres make Grand Targhee a unique experience. It has more than 1000 acres of pristine powder reserved for Snow Cat Adventures. Follow expert guides through the Wyoming Mountains through expansive north-facing bowls and meadows of powder. Combined with a hot cooked lunch, Snow Cat Adventures are quite simply, one of the greatest thrills in North America!

The apres ski

The ski resort of Jackson Hole has a large variety of entertainment to suit the taste of every visitor. Whether you feel the need to dine, relax, listen to live music or catch a movie, there are plenty of options for entertainment after the skis come off. Jackson Hole has a great array of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. Board a horse-drawn sleigh and ride through the woods to enjoy a meal at Solitude Cabin - with a fire burning in the stove or join the locals in Calico, a perfect place for a drink after a long day on the slopes.

During the winter months, Jackson Hole is known for it's incredible skiing and unique western character. What does one do after a long day of skiing at one of the Jackson Hole area ski resorts? Jackson Hole offers plenty of winter fun and thrills from tubing, ice-skating, snowshoeing and snowscooting. Dog sledding is perfect for adventurers of all ages and abilities. Whether your idea of heaven is sitting on a soft cushion snuggled deep in fleece blankets, or it's getting a workout while driving your own sled. The King Tubes Tubins Park takes children and adults up Snow King Mountain for a ride in their own giant snow tube.

Along with a huge range of outdoor activities, the Town of Jackson and Teton Village are also home to great shopping and dining, among other things. If you're looking to recharge your batteries after a long day on the slopes, there is a selection of massage and spa venues awaiting you.

Whether you're a skier or snowboarder and whatever your level, a ski holiday in Jackson Hole offers some of the best terrain in the world. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village draws skiers from far and wide for its steep and deep powder, and Jackson Hole's first ski resort, Snow King, is a fun spot for younger skiers and novices, while still providing plenty of challenging terrain. Snow King also offers the valley's only night skiing.

Resort overview

Jackson Hole is known simply as 'The Big One' and its fame is worldwide. It is one of the greatest ski areas in North America. A Jackson Hole skiing holiday offers it all: varied terrain, abundant dry powder, a vast backcountry and few crowds. Jackson Hole is the commonly used name for the broad-based valley that lies at 6,200 feet between two mountain ranges. Though many come to enjoy skiing, spend time shopping in historic downtown or for just plain winter peace and solitude, there is so much more! While skiing is certainly a major pastime, Jackson's unique location, at the base of the majestic Grand Tetons and close to both Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, offers natural splendour and a real outdoor adventure.

The town of Jackson evokes memories of its frontier past, surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges; Jackson Hole has been called 'the last and best of the Old West.' The town of Jackson (at the end of Jackson Hole) features a charming square complete with western boardwalks and Elkhorn arches, plus a number of designer shops, cafés, restaurants, and art galleries. Resorts such as Snow King and Grand Targhee offer some of the best skiing anywhere.
