Charming and picturesque resort in the heart of the Three Valleys
Méribel ski resort has always featured great wood clad chalet style architecture and retains its original charm as one of the most tastefully designed French resorts. The resort was founded by a Brit and has had a strong British presence since its opening in 1938. The lift system continues to improve and Meribel is connected to one of the largest lift systems in the world. The Three Valleys is home to many ski resorts and has something to offer every level of skier or boarder. The satellite resort of Meribel-Mottaret, slightly higher than Meribel and more modern in its architecture, gives super-fast access to Val Thorens, Courchevel and the rest of the Three Valleys.
Méribel has one of the biggest selections of catered ski chalets in Europe, there really are ski chalets to suit everyone's needs. Accommodation can be found piste-side but with a lot of chalets in the main town Meribel offers a great bus network to make it easy for everyone to get access to the lifts.
Whether you want a no expense spared luxury ski chalet for 8 or a no frills double in a 40 person chalet hotel, Méribel is a perfect choice for your ski holiday.
Skiing in Meribel offers something for everyone. With an unrivalled amount of skiing and boarding (600km), the Trois Vallées is a magnificent ski area. The Méribel Valley is in the middle of the three valleys making it the ideal base for exploring the whole ski area From the main lift station you can climb either side of the valley by gondola and find yourself either at Saulire admiring the view down to Courchevel, or at La Tougnete with access to Val Thorens and Les Menuires.
For the advanced skier the area's blacks and off-piste will need little introduction, but do try the black from the top of the Roc de Tougne and the pistes around La Caron which will test any experienced skier.
Take some runs down the through attractive woods leading to Méribel Village from where you can catch a chairlift back to the wide open runs of the Altiport area.
The facilities for snowboarders are excellent across the whole Trois Valleés ski area. Two terrain parks can be found in the Meribel area, the Moon park and the Mottaret Park and often a mini Boardercross run, there is certainly enough for beginners to get some air time and more than enough to test the more advanced rider. Snow making has dramatically increased in recent years to ensure a good ski right back to your accommodation in all conditions.
Le Rond Pont aka The Ronny, above Méribel Centre at the Rond Point des Pistes is a must-visit venue. It has a 4-5pm happy hour featuring live bands/music and a positive atmosphere, getting lively right from the end of the skiing day into the evening.
Revamped a few years ago, Le Poste is one of the smartest bars in town and has a good cocktail menu and a high profile atmosphere. Meanwhile, Dicks Tea Bar is a great choice for serious party goers. You don't want to be queuing out in the cold so be sure to get there early. Doors open at 9pm and there's a happy hour going till 11.30pm.
The Olympic Centre hosts top-level ice hockey matches and has a heated swimming pool, climbing wall and bowling alley.
