The Kitzbuhel ski area is large, with 145km of pistes to suit all level of skier and it is possible to buy a pass that allows you to ski in other local resorts thus giving you over 600km of pistes to ski.
The main ski area is situated in the Hahnenkamm side and is shared with the smaller resort of Kirchberg. The Hahnenkammbahn gondola goes from the edge of the town and brings you quickly to the Ehrenbachgraben and Pengelstein areas, ideal for intermediate skiers. There are lots of fantastic long blue runs and some tasty red pistes down to Kirchberg, Aschau, Aurach, Jochberg and Pass Thurn. All these areas are well linked by a good and efficient lift system. The most confident will find the World’s most famous downhill run challenging: “The Hahnenkamm” piste goes back to the village and attracts a huge crowd mid-January for the World Men downhill race.
Beginners will learn skiing on the nursery slopes which host excellent ski schools AND (even better), offer free lifts! The Kitzbüheler Horn area provides a wide open ski area with some beautiful cruising runs. Improvers and beginners can get a day lift pass for the Horn once they have learnt on the nursery slopes. However, this large resort has a low altitude, which means on sunny days, you will find ice and slush on the lower slopes. It is also possible to buy a pass that allows you to ski in other local resorts thus giving you over 1000km of pistes to ski! The “All Star Card” covers areas such as the Ski-Welt (through the Ki-west gondola to Westendorf) and the Ski Circus.
