The ski resort of Nothstar is just 6 miles north of Lake Tahoe, Northstar is a superb purpose built resort and is only 45mins from Reno Airport making it one of the shortest transfer times in North America. Northstar is the third largest ski resort around Lake Tahoe. The resort was recently acquired by Vail Resorts a very reputable property management group in North America who have invested $30 million in its development. This has included a new high-speed chairlift, a new 500 seat on-mountain restaurant; and various new retail outlets at the Village base, this is ongoing in in aid of transforming this famous ski resort into one of California’s trendiest and most desirable skiing hotspots!

Skiing and Boarding in Northstar

With 3170 acres to its utility belt and a longest run of 1.4 miles there is more than enough for any level of skier/boarder to sink their powder covered boots into. 97 trails and 20 lifts are currently operated with the latest addition of the new high speed chairlift opening up the gladed terrain on the “backside” of Northstar mountain.  This area already has a reputation for amazing glade skiing and advanced runs.

There are several types of lift passes on offer for the area: The Heavenly and Northstar pass which covers Heavenly and Northstar; the Ski Lake Tahoe Interchangeable pass which also includes the resorts of Squaw Valley, Mount Rose, and Alpine Meadows;If you're the adventurous type of skier or just love to see as much as possible and want to explore all that Tahoe has to offer, hire a car and take a tour around the lake during your stay! For those with more time and distance to cover there is the Epic Pass which not only covers Northstar and Heavenly, but Vail resorts other destinations such as Breckenridge, Keystone and Beaver Creek in Colorado!
