Skiing in Switzerland

Switzerland has a rich winter sports history and is the home of modern downhill skiing. It's no wonder it is still a popular destination with UK holidaymakers looking to soak up some of the rustic charm offered by Skiing in Switzerland.

Skiing in Switzerland
Skiing in Switzerland is a joy for all levels of skiers, especially for those at intermediate to advanced level who can find a vast array of challenging terrain, and even some of the toughest skiing in Europe. Snowboarders will also be happy, with great powder to be found throughout the season, as well as some of the best snowparks in Europe.

Ski resorts in Switzerland
Ski resorts in Switzerland are beautiful. Where as France is the home of the unattractive purpose built resort, Switzerland is definitely the home of the quaint mountain village that has been transformed into a year round resort destination. For this reason Swiss ski resorts are among the most picturesque in the world, dotted with wooden chalet buildings and full of rustic charm.

Many regard Swiss ski resorts as highly expensive. Whilst this is in part true, often things are no more expensive than in top French ski resorts, and whilst the prices may be higher, the real difference is in the quality. From food in mountain restaurants to service in hotels, what you get for your money in Switzerland is generally top class.

Saas Fee

The beautiful Swiss alpine town of Saas Fee is the perfect destination for families, groups and couples. The relaxed swiss atmosphere coupled with the back drop of perfect mountain glaciers is a must for everyone.
Saas Fee offers snow sure skiing due to its height, and a pretty village in which to stay. Ideal for intermediates and good for beginners, the resort has plenty for the non-skiier including an entire mountain for walking, paragliding and tobogganing.

Zermatt

Zermatt ski resort   The ski resort of Zermatt is a charming chocolate box old mountain village with the spectacular Matterhorn dominating the background. Linked to Cervinia in Italy the resort has great high and varied terrain and is popular with those looking for heli-skiing. The ski resort of Zermatt is ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers and has a reputation for some of the best mountain restaurants around.

Flims

Flims ski resort   The ski resort of Flims is one of three ski resorts connected to the famous White Arena ski area, which combines the resorts of Flims, Laax and Falera. It is the second largest linked ski area in Switzerland and the ski area is well interconnected and served by a vast network of lifts and gondolas, assuring fast access to the 220km of slopes. Off piste skiing is extensive and easily accessible from marked trails.  It is a regular host to international competitions such as the FIS World Championship in skiing and the Burton European Open in snowboarding.
