About the Skiing and Boarding in St Anton
St Anton caters mainly for the intermediate/advanced skiers and boarders with a high percentage of challenging red and black runs. Beginners are taken care of just above the village towards Nasserein, where there are some nice nursery slopes and some gentle blues but we would advise a couple of days in Lech the neighboring resort which is more suitable for the less confident skier.
Boarders will find areas of the resort have allot of flat but the advanced rider should find plenty to challenge themselves and it's worth it if you're looking for that perfect off piste line which is partly what St Anton has become popular for over the years.
Après Ski in St Anton
Although St Anton is compact and pedestrianised, it has a small-town atmosphere with a typical Austrian feel, unique to ski resorts in the Alps. Its central main road is lined with bars, restaurants and shops. There is a huge range of bars and pubs to suit any mood.
Krazy Kanguruh; with its 3 bars and the mad parties of the 'Mooserwirt' just across the piste, are the customary places to head at close of play and are usually full from 4pm well into the evening. Skiing back the short distance to town after a visit is always a fun experience!
Taps; A good piste side hangout to stop at for lunch or après good ribs, good burgers, good music and deck chairs, for live music and late night dancing head to 'Piccadilly' and 'Hazienda' in the town centre or the late night club 'Kandahar', which plays a variety of electronic music. Other bars in town worth a visit are; the 'Funky Chicken', a hub of Sweeds and birthplace of the frozen Margharita with cool ski videos, 'Bar Cuba' for an range of Rum based drinks, the 'Train' for excellent food and an authentic Austrian atmosphere and finally, 'Scotties', a lively bar with great pizza from the adjoining 'Rosanna Pizzeria'. The well known and loved 'Underground' bar with its friendly atmosphere, nachos, and live music, has recently moved and is now right at the bottom of the piste. It's a great place to chill and/or party in front of one of the great local bands.
St Anton is enhanced by the huge range of activities on offer such as; ice skating, Curling, Bowling, Tobogganing, Sleigh rides and the 4.2 km floodlit sled course from Gampen via the Rodelhütte to 'Rodelstall' in Nasserein which has been called the best in Europe! Also the leisure centre found in the heart of St. Anton is worth a visit and features in/outdoor pools connected via a whirlpool, with waterfalls and a separate children's section, a fitness centre, range of saunas, steam rooms and large frozen lake for ice-skating and curling.
