Just 15 minutes from the Italian border, the Grand Galaxy lift pass extension covers the famous Franco-Italian Milky Way ski circuit with over 400km of piste as well as a day's skiing in Serre Chevalier, Les Deux Alpes, Alpe d'Huez and Puy St Vincent. As one of the oldest resorts in France, Montgenèvre retains the personal feel of a small village whilst allowing access for intermediates to the mighty “Milky Way” ski area just over the border in Italy. The town became fashionable in the 1930s and has remained traditional and pretty, even as the skiing has expanded. The main ski area straddles France & Italy and is easily accessible from within the heart of the village, offering stunning scenery. The immediate runs are particularly suited to beginners and intermediates whilst the more advanced skier can enjoy the wider area and fantastic off piste opportunities. Famously snow-sure, Montgenèvre has one of the best records in the Southern Alps, receiving regular dumps of snow from storms forced up the valley from the west.
Recently a bypass was built diverting the busy main road from the centre of the village, meaning heavy through traffic is a thing of the past. There has never been a better time to visit this high, snow-sure resort.
