Formigal Press Release: Sir Steve Redgrave 'I think its a great family resort'...
FIVE times Olympic gold medallist, Sir Steve Redgrave, found Formigal an ideal family resort when he took his wife and children there for half term.
The Redgraves enjoyed a week of thick snow, blue skies and Spanish hospitality at the resort in the Pyrenees. But what they found most surprising was the lack of crowds.
Former British rower, Sir Steve said: “I think it’s a great family resort.
“It was very quiet which was a good thing. I was expecting to see more school kids as it was half term and there were no queues. Normally you go anywhere in France and its packed with school kids.”
The Redgraves were impressed with the ski area at Formigal. Sir Steve said: “We’re all quite good skiers and on our first day we skied for about four hours in total and never went on the same lift twice. There are lots of runs, so if you want to travel around a bit its quite good from that point of view.
“More experienced skiers would quite like the off piste when there’s fresh powder.”
About the weather he added: “It was fantastic. You always worry about the Pyrenees, but it was really good. Obviously there was lots of snow and on piste was fantastic.”
Formigal, which is new to the UK this season is Spain’s largest ski resort and can be reached by direct flights from Gatwick and a 90 minute coach transfer to resort.
