Sprawled at the foot of the Aguille du Midi, the ski resort of Chamonix is a traditional old town with year round mountain activity. Although the ski area is spread out over 11 disconnected sections, they are all worth exploring and almost all the runs are above the tree line. Catching the bus to the different ski areas is the way of life in Chamonix, so having a car can be an advantage. The centre of Chamonix is car free and there are plenty of shops, cafes and bars to sit in and relax as your eyeline is instinctivly drawn to the peaks above you.

About the Skiing and Boarding in Chamonix
Spread out over the valley, the ski resort of Chamonix has everything to offer. Beginners have a nursery area fairly seperate from the rest of the slopes so need not worry about people speeding past. Intermediates have a good choice of places to refine their skills - Col de Balme above La Tour offers good cruising runs and the Brevent and Flegere areas both offer a good mix of blues and reds.
The ski resort of Chamonix is however, one of the great resorts for an expert skiier. To make the most of the area, and to avoid risking your life, hiring a guide to show you some of the best off piste is worth it. The famous Vallee Blanche is one to do if you arean intermediate plus, looking for an adventure and some stunning scenery. There are plenty of other great runs off the Grand Montets cable car, a variety of runs from the Brevant cable car, and from La Tour, there are some good off-piste runs back to the village or towards Vallorcine
